Outdoor Family Photoshoot: Competition winner’s experience
October has been a crazy busy month and I was delighted to auction an outdoor family photo session at Cheeky Chimps Pre-school Auction of Pledges. They raised an impressive £2,600, which will help to create a beautiful new outdoor classroom for the children. Getting camera-ready
This gift voucher session was won by Katy and Matt, parents to 2-year old Aurthur and 11-week old twin girls Edith and Maisie. It’s the perfect time of year for autumn photos and Katy quickly got in touch to organise an outdoor session. Booking a session at this time of year also means your photos will be ready for family Christmas cards and gifts.
We discussed possible locations on the phone together and opted for Combe Hill Wood near Street. It has fabulous views and the family visit Combe Hill Wood regularly, which gives an extra layer of meaning and familiarity to their images.
I sent them my pre-shoot Prep Guide and we settled on a date and a 4.30pm time for the session. Weather is always tricky at this time of year and we had to rearrange the date, but eventually the forecast was in our favour and we went for it.
How did the photo session go?
We started with a lovely walk through the woods, with some relaxed family shots to get everyone settled in. Arthur kept us all busy chatting about tractors – his favourite!
We made our way towards the location with the best view, only to find the clouds had rolled in by this point. So, instead we opted for some cosy, cuddled up images of the family and then the girls together. Knowing how changeable the weather can be, I brought my waterproof blanket to help me capture some amazing overhead shots.
Combe Hill Wood is an ideal, hassle-free family location for a photo shoot. Its gravel pathways are easily accessible and Katy was able to bring the double buggy and tuck the girls in for a snooze when they were tired.
We played some games with Arthur and he explored the woods, collecting fern leaf souvenirs before we headed back to the car park.
What will they get from the session?
In total, the session lasted an hour and the family will receive 10 images with the chance to upgrade to the full gallery if they want. They’ll also receive £30 print credit to spend on prints, or put towards frames or an album. This outdoor family photo session gift voucher costs £310.
I also offer a £245 option – a one-hour family photo session with 5 images and £20 print credit. And if the variable weather doesn’t appeal, I offer at home sessions too.
